Maybe this thread could be moved to the Photography area... or maybe i should start again in there. Been sifting through more photos i took when home... these are some taken Xmas eve. Four from the summit (or near the summit) of Yamnafield looking south over Sullom, Brae and far beyond. Two are o da daek dat winds it wye between Burgan and Yamnafield in the north/south valley that splits the two... near Burgan Loch. Usual photo quality failure when posting on here, trying to make the files as small as possible for uploading... the gist can be gleamed. Yamnafield, South, Birds Sullom and Brae from Yamnafield Light starting to go on Yamnafield Slope of Yamnafield again looking south Daek and stones Winding down the valley and auld hoose

Foula from Collafirth Hill... *wonders if he posted up a version of this photo before...* Setting sun. Light through clouds hitting St Magnus Bay, Foula and Hillswick and even Da Drongs Silhouette of croe like thing in the setting sun.

cheers ta dee! Not easy sifting through all the images you take... it's almost as difficult a skill being your own critic and deleting the hundreds of photos you might have taken in a day, spotting the good photos the bad photos and maybe some really good photos (or truly terrible), than it is taking the photo in the first place. Don't know if its a downside to Digital SLR's or not, but its something i'm noticing. All those photos above are ones i passed over on initial inspection... just a trick i need to learn the more i take photos (it has only been the couple of months...). Photo quality is terrible posting up here, but the file sizes are just too big otherwise. I'm looking at getting myself a neutral density filter next... along with a better lens (18-85mm or better). Now i've made a start with it all and found I REALLY enjoy doing it, once i get them purchased... i might even know how to utilise them (kinda...)

I'll have you know i'm in the library almost everyday... and if not i'm too busy going through photos and learning exactly how i should be balancing the apereture with exposure settings for best results, and just which lens i should be buying next to replace this rather bog-standard kit lens... Sure i'll make the pub sometime again! *Edit*... and i've already spotted something i don't like about the last photo i posted regarding composition... i should trim the left hand side, so that the croe is better balanced, and open up the right hand side... would look better. blasted... will fix sometime!

;D Thanks, missyme and george. He was called Barney and he is now, sadly not with us anymore but we have him on our desk top on the computer. He was a gorgeous dog and never ate a wean as far as I can remember!!!! Well, at least not that I know of!! I miss him terribly still but I have his great nephew now who is even softer than he was. He loves everybody and his enthusiasm for life knows no bounds! And, like his great uncle Barney is good with the chickens and the sheep.

There are some lovely photos on this thread, I won't single out any particular one for comment - that wouldn't be fair, but there's some good talent knocking about behind those shutter buttons. I sometimes make very big mistakes, and this is a shot of a car of mine which I sold recently (a 1982 Mazda RX7). It was a long exposure of several seconds and like an idiot I left the blinkers running. Apart from that I like the shot. HenGit

Puff, puff, I'm out of breath, I just got a complaint from someone that my blinkers were off.
It's a good job I had that battery on 'fast' charge.
They're back on now, I think. That should last a day or three.
