Gorgeous flowers lasses. Rich colours and then the pale freshness of the last one. We went to the 'green event' recently <can't remember what the official title was!> at Clickimin, the big sports centre in Lerwick. Lots of compost bins, boards to say what you thought were the most important green issues for Shetland, gardening stuff, polytunnel info, plants. Plants... I couldn't resist Rosa yet again... news.scotsman.com/topics.cfm?tid=971&id=1968352005... and ended up with a tray full of titbits. She gave us a discount and threw in a freebie <and a strawberry to nibble as well> so that made us feel better. Mr Fifi's known Rosa since the 70s when she did the gardens at Busta and she shrieked with her thick Bavarian accent - ooh look, tall dark & handsome, haven't seen you in aaages - when she saw him. <she's obviously got a good sense of humour > Pete Glanville was fascinating with his knowledge of gardening and polytunnels. He had some fantastic photos on his laptop of what they've achieved with their land. Anyway, I digress from flowers.. I finally got round to planting Rosa's stuff yesterday, for it to get blasted with the wind today..

so when they've recovered from the wind are we going to see some pictures? Yes, can do. Yesterday summer was here. Today - back to autumn. Fickle Shetland weather.. Doesn't look anything fantastic though. Bear in mind we must have some of the most difficult gardening conditions in the UK, with lots of wind and salt spray. <she said, trying to make excuses... ;D>

Yikes!!! I see you are suffering from those groundhog critters too George. Nice to hear from you again. I was getting a bit worried. That rose bush is not unusual. I was told that roses are all/mostly grafted onto wild rootstock ( I think that is true - someone may know better) and so sometimes the wild rootstock gets very busy and pushes out a shoot which, if left will take over the whole plant. It looks like the rootstock may be a field rose - like a dog rose only white instead of pink. And the leaves are different too. Have a nice day! Hopefully see you in the pub later - it's not been the same without you.
