The Scottish Executive are being urged to tackle a "slow-burning crisis" in Scotland's Village Halls by boosting financial support and cutting red tape. The campaign, led by the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisation (SCVO), highlights the vital role that village halls and community buildings play in Scotland's rural communities, and emphasises that investing in their survival must be a key part of the Executive's Rural Development policy. The SCVO said: "We want to encourage everyone that uses or values their local hall to sign this petition." www.villagehalls.org.uk/NewsAndEvents/ViewNews.aspx?NewsID=726&al=t&from=Home

Signed here too. 'Da Hall' is much too much an important feature of rural (and edge of town) life to be allowed to smothered by red tape and impractical rules and regulations dreamed up by anonymous beaurocrats. In Shetland, we have been much more fortunate than most other Scottish areas, halls having been much better supported financially by different S.I.C.'s over the years than is the case elsewhere.

If 'da hall' was ever smothered by red tape, we'd just have to invent a new 'hall' at a less official level - so what's the point?
