Well, it seems that one of the squads at the Scalloway Fire Festival was handing out £20 notes issued by the "Bank of Nothmavine" and this has caused a bit of a stushie as some folk thought they were genuine !!! How daft can some folk get, not to notice something like that in large letters across the top? I am led to believe that was what was being referred to on the radio the other evening, "Forgeries" indeed !!!

It's hilarious if it is the 'Bank of Northmavine' notes that the police are referring to. You could almost get another sketch out of that.. ;D www.shetland-news.co.uk/pages/news%20stories/01_2007/wild_west_gun_theft_-_two_charged.htmIt is below, but in the same article as, the piece on gun theft. Just noticed recently the annoying habit Shetland News seems to have adopted in lumping two completely unrelated articles together in one article. Also, Harry Horse & wife's death plus Sandy Macaulay. It makes the heading pointless. Come on guys...

Am I the only person in Northmavine that thinks the Lerwick Up-Helly-Aa is a horrible day of testosterone-fuelled sexism that should be challenged in the European Court of Human Rights? Northmavine and other UHAs are a model of equality in comparison, and I'm not against fiery torches and general drunken sprees. Here's to the progressive nature of the rural areas!!

Bonna - I wid be at da Nortmavine Up-Helly-Aa but am awa dat weekend. Bein in a squad is no fur me, but I certainly regularly go tae a hall. Nortower - is da European Court o Human Rights a possibility? I tink da Borders Riding case wis successful? Yes yes I know it's free legal advice I'm after here but surely that's OK since you're not yet qualified to give it?

A video of the Lerwick Up-Helly-Aa. Although, as everyone knows, when the galley is burned and the procession ends, the night is just beginning.. ;D
