Well, after the sustained period of gales recently, we were glad to see a bit of blue sky and got out today - up Collafirth Hill and to the pier. Aquarius at the Collafirth Pier today. Scallop dredger. <I think!>

Hi,heimdal. a mate of mine was building a shetland model a few years ago. and he told me that you have to be carefull with the plank's, as it is important which way the annular rings are, as, if you put the plank the wrong way round, then they can snap, which one did with him, he told me when it snapped, it sounded like a gunshot, lucky for him he had some spare, it was larch from lochnagar. he used some kind of wax/oil from norway. to help protect the timber, he then painted it in the skerrie's traditional colour's.. he did have a wee bit of difficulies wae the bead just under the gunwhale, he had to borrow an old gilum [excuse the spelling] to shape the bead. he has since aquired his own.. regards george.
