I let our wee dog out the front about 9pm and she went flying over to a shrubbed area where she started stalking something, luckily I got her back indoors where I grabbed a torch to see if it was one of our many hedgehog visitors but I was surprised to see an otter, especially as we a good 100+ yards away from water. I think it would certainly have dragged her off as she is tiny.

I'm glad the wee dog did'nt get to close as the otter has a fearsome bite.. otters travel overland as well Malcolm, i've seen a few well away from the sea.. i was heading to Ollaberry one morning, and one crossed the road at the hillswick/ north roe junction.. a few weeks ago, two of them were fighting in my neighbours garden it was dark, they were making the most queer noises, my sons neighbour opened her door and her cat bolted straight in.. ;D

Hi. Hdq.. Otters would probably back off from a dog, but if it thought it was trapped, then it would fight back.. This one was munching a fish, they use their back teeth to mash up their food.. This was one i was watching from the rocks..

I didn't realise they would attack a dog - thought they would just back off and disappear. Mind you Rats will attack a human if cornered, I hate rats, think it's the tail.
