The Gunnister Man exhibition at the museum is really fascinating. There's a board up where you can post your view of who he was. My Dad always said he was Oliphant of Ure, and that he was killed by hitmen in the employ of the Giffords of Busta. Apparently there is a stone in the Eshaness kirkyard that says "he died in the hill". Anybody heard any other stories?

Living in middle England as I do MrGluss I cannot help you identify the Gunnister man but I thought I would reply just to bring it to the top again. When I was a child, too many years ago now I have to say, I periodically stayed for a couple of nights at my Grandmother's, she used to say go to sleep or Mr. "******* *********" would come in the night. The name was a strange one and one I can't write here, and as I grew older I thought my Grandmother had made it up. This state of affairs lasted many years, until a couple of weeks ago, every Monday my local paper puts one or two pages of old photographs sent in by readers to see if any one can help identify people on the photos. One of the pictures showed an old soccer team from the early 90's, slap bang in the middle of the picture stood "****** *********" a little shiver was experienced. H'mmm I thought!
