Hello I am researching the Ratter family on behalf of a dear friend in Canada, I live in Far North Queensland Australia. i am following the line of Lawrence Ratter b 1900 son of Lawrence Ratter b 1862 and Agnes Williamina Moncrieff b 1872. If I have followed the line correctly back I have the following and would appreciate any verification and assistance whatsoever! I am travelling to the Uk and Canada early next year and hope to visit the Shetlands to photograph any family places. The Family seemed to reside mainly in Yell, or Northmavine?sp? I have the parents of Lawrence b 1862 as Charles Ratter b 1836 and Ann hay b 1830, Charles parents as Charles Ratter b 1801 and Jane Winchester b 1799, and his parents as Charles Ratter b 1770? and Barbara Anderson b 1770? Many thanks for reading this and hope to hear from some Ratter's
Cheers
Lily

Hi Lily, I see you haven't had any replies to your query so I thought I would see if I can help you in any way. I have done a quick search on the Bayanne House genealogy website and from the information you have given, I have come up with this page here which might help you with your searching. From the webpage I have given above, you can then click on some of the 8 sons and daughters of Laurence and Agnes to find further information about them and their families, the ones with the > before their names means there is further information available. You will also notice that where there are family members still alive, then no information about them is listed on the website but maybe you will be able to link them up with any family members you already have. I hope this is of help to you

Hi there I'll have a look on Brothers Keepers and see if this is the same Ratter line as me. My great grandmother on my father's side was a Ratter. Back in touch soon. Pat

Thank you both for your kind replies I have looked up the Ratter Line as suggested and it has been a great help. My friend in Canada is a Ratter as you may have imagined and is very excited about the Shetland connection. I would be interested to know if any of the Ratter homes/crofts are still standing as I still hope to visit the area in April next year. Also would be grateful for any information on how to get to Northmavine from Merseyside. Many thanks again and hope to hear from you (Pat would be fantastic if there was a family connection)
Cheers

Hi Lily8! My Mother is a Ratter. Her father was William Jamieson Ratter and was born in Northmavine. His father was Gilbert Ratter, who had a brother Lawrence. Please feel free to email me at country.cousins@hampden.com to share information. I live in the US and will be going to Shetland for Hamefarin in June 2010
