Lots of folk have been asking when we're opening, so here's an update. We're in the Shetland Visitor as being open May-Sept, but unfortunately aren't open yet. We're hoping to be open by the end of the month, but it'll depend on when we get the completion certificate from Building Standards. We'd been waiting for the builder to return to finish off his bits, which he's just done. Just really got to finish getting the path to the shop to the level of the door plus white-lining the parking spaces in front of the house and tarring the disabled space at the side. Everything arrived from Ikea except my counter which I'm starting to doubt is ever in stock! So it might have to be a table to start with! I've been taking photos along the way and meant to have a blog going showing the progress but haven't managed that yet. The card machine has just been installed, so all in all we're getting there. Looking forward to when we can get open!

Well, Oily Muggie opened for business on Sunday 7th June. We're open 10-5pm every day except Weds, May - Sept. Local Shetland crafts plus a few other things, including pottery from Orkney. Some local produce - Oceanic Oatcakes from Unst, very lucky to get Shetland honey plus we're the only place to have Shetland Fudge <as far as I know> in Shetland, apart from the Fudge Shop in Lerwick and the Northlink boats. Cards <including Emma Jamieson from Gluss's cards & Mary Shearer watercolour views>, gift wrap and gift bags. Feel free to have a wander round the garden, visit the Happy Hens, etc.

Thanks very much, Aitch & Benji. The website <Designed in Shetland> has been somewhat neglected lately but I hope to get a lot of the stuff in the shop that's not already done on t'internet too. I'm aware that not everyone's got Facebook to see my piccies but I'll get the Oily Muggie blog started when I can and get some pics on there.

Thanks DL - yes, pop in any time and have a lookie. Wednesdays is our day closed, but I'll open if I'm there. Open every other day. I'll also open by request <eg in the evening> if someone wants it. Was going to eventually do gift vouchers once I'd been open a while <possibly in the future for the website too> but day 3 someone asked so we're now doing Oily Muggie gift vouchers!

We were up in Shetland last week and managed to pop in along Oily Muggy.
What a delight it was, Fiona has such a lovely stock of island crafts. It is a well needed venue in Northmavine to showcase local craft talent.
We left with smiles on our faces and less money in the bank.
We wish Fiona well with her venture.

Thanks very much, churchstreet. It was lovely to meet you all. Yes, lots of talented people! As an update for anyone interested, we've now got lots more Shetland Soap Co goodies in larger sizes as well as peerie and handmade cards by Emma McLaughin <Jamieson> from Gluss, including her pop-up/pop-out ones which make everyone shriek and her kits for bairns to make their own pop-up cards. New handmade cards and lovely bright hand felted brooches by Susanne Hay from Brae and hats by her Mum, Lorna Hay. Beautiful handmade cushions and coasters by Ena Mowat of Hillswick - the front of the cushion is in a lovely puffin fabric and the other side is cuddly, soft fleece. Peerie Fair Isle baby bunting back in stock and we're enjoying dancing <in the shop!> to the new debut DC by Fullsceilidh Spelemannslag which we've just got in. Definitely dancing music for a good spree! Some Orkney pottery left but more on its way in Island Green and Viking Sea <blue & white>. Lots more stuff coming including some of the gorgeous Glansin Glass from Unst and 'I'd Rather Be in Shetland coasters to match the Shetland mugs. More £2.99 rugs back in stock and some sustainable hand carved bamboo ducks & ducklings have landed, having flown in to visit us via Jimmy's Farm in Ipswich. Each one a bit different and each with its own name tag. Cards - blank & for various occasions, gift wrap & gift bags always in stock and Oily Muggie gift vouchers if you can't decide! Open every day 10-5pm <closed Weds> or other times by arrangement. Groups or parties welcome for evenings. Tel: 01806 503363.

Thanks Bod. Just to let folk know that Oily Muggie is going to close for this summer from Monday 14th September inclusive. Last day of summer trading will be Sunday 13th September. It’s been a very fast, busy and thoroughly enjoyable summer! Our first season in the shop seems to have flown by! Many thanks to everyone who came along – tourists and locals – and thanks for all the lovely comments, suggestions and requests, which all help to improve things for the future! Many thanks also to Brenda and Ena who helped out occasionally. One request which has come thick and fast is for Oily Muggie to open for Christmas shopping, so, your wish is my command! Dates and times have still to be arranged but it will probably involve some weekends and evenings and will be announced nearer the time. While Oily Muggie is winding down, the website – Designed in Shetland – will be getting some long-needed attention given to it, with lots of new things to be added. There will be a blog coming along shortly with news and photos. Oh, with the nights drawing in and autumn just about upon us (and the X Factor has started again...), an excuse to indulge yourself. Shetland Fudge Company goodies are reduced in the shop – chocolate truffle fudge and tablet - so come along and grab a bag or a box..
