Hi everyone! I am looking for any information anyone may have on some wooden carvings that my Grandfather had. He had a group of "little people" sitting on barrels. They were playing musical instruments. They were less than 4-5 inches tall. They may have been even smaller than that. When I was young, he used to let me look at them and would talk about the little people. He said he received them when he was young. As he was born and lived in Shetland until he was a teen, I believe they came from Shetland. The people looked more like leprechauns/elves, than Trows. Not as scary looking or hairy! Sadly, after he died, a relative took them and lost them. anyway, I am hoping that someone may know about them. I asked people when I was in Shetland, but no one that I asked had ever heard of them. Thank you so much for any information that you may have.

Hi hampdenquilts. Haven't heard of anything like that. Surely others so far haven't either as there's been around 17 views of your post. You could always try the wider Shetlink forum - www.shetlink.com/forum/. If you didn't want to join just to post about this query, I could always make an enquiry on your behalf if you wanted.

Thank you, Fiona. I think you are right. Perhaps it was a one of a kind set. He lived in Northmavine, so if no one there has ever heard of anything like them chances are very slim anyone from outside knows of them. Thank you all for helping me. At least I have my memories of them!

hi my hubby remembers his grand-father talking about how they would often trade with irish wherries who mainly came from east coast/north-east of ireland they traded in rona's voe and northmavine fishing and buying fish and in rona's voe where i live there was 9 fishing stations and it was common for the skippers to carry bits and bobs to trade for extra food ect. possibly your carvings came from them check maybe museums in dubln/wexford if they have any similar items note a wherrie is a type of fishing boat hope this might help
