Hello forum members! I do hope I've posted this thread in the correct spot. Here I sit, indulging myself in a satisfying snack of cheese on toast.... and oily dark ale. I've found this video of Shetland on Youtube: au.youtube.com/watch?v=IFY2wS2hpZsThe fiddle music at the begining is absolutely fantastic, precisely my sort of music. However, it's the tune that commences at approxitmately the six minute mark, that rouses my emotions. " .....What's this tide that moves inside......" Indeed, friends of Northmavine; What is this tide that moves inside? This woman has, perhaps, the most haunting, beautiful voice I've ever heard.... Who is she? Ach.. aye........It makes me close my eyes, and soon I escape to that place so familiar to me. I see with deft clarity, in my minds eye, that which I've always seen since I was an infant..... And how it warms my soul. I'll leave you with this. Wishing you all, health, equal to my own. Adze.

I know the song very well. It is often played on 60 North FM which you can find at this link: www.visitshetland.com/media-centre/Click on the link (first one) or if that doesn't work click on the tourist radio and you will not only hear the songs but it will tell you what is playing.

Good Afternoon People! ;D I knew you'd be able to help out.... so kind of you.
Thank you for the links Maree and Benjiesmum. I can't manage to make 60 North FM work though.....Perhaps the site is down, perhaps it's my computer. I'll keep trying.
I wonder if all of Jillian's work is so beautiful? Jenna Reid also gets "thumbs up" from me.
Do any of you play an instrument?
Since I was a little fellow, I wished to play the fiddle or the wooden, keyless flute. Alas, I've never had the chance.
I'd love to be able to play a tune to the lambs, before slaughter, to subdue them and put them at ease. It just seems, to me, the right thing to do.
I love to see foals and calves moving to music, they seem to truly love it.
Keep well friends,
Adam

Hi Adam Both Jillian and Jenna are a credit to Shetland.
My musical ability is nil and I've always envied folk that could play or sing.
With regard to the putting animals at ease before their final passage.......a friend of mine ( who is a slaughterman and butcher) was telling me that the calmer you can keep an animal before slaughter, the more tender the meat will be. If the animal is stressed it will tense up those muscles and the carcass won't be as relaxed and tender. cheers m

The written link does seem to not be working but if you look down the side there is a line of greenish buttons - click on the one that says "tourist radio." That one is working for me!

Hi Guys Ok Benji, I've tried the tourist radio button and it's currently not functioning due to storm damage!!! Perhaps I've offended the gods and now they're punishing me by way of music deprivation. Haha Maree, I always strive to keep my animals at ease when I'm slaughtering, for those reasons you suggest, vasoconstriction and what not. Although..... in practice I can't notice any difference between the toughness of meat killed in different ways. Maybe I just have a most excellent set of fangs!! Well, I best scram. Goodnight everyone, Adam
