Positive images – positive effect
Activities for young people with positive results
By Paul Lee and Louise Bishop
ISBN: 978-1-905541-21-8
Here is help developing fun-packed sessions and programmes focussing on successes and positive images with positive effects. The activities are wholly inclusive, and can be used with anyone from age 8 upwards regardless of ability, gender, strength or agility.
The 111 short and easy-to-use activities are designed to help young people work together to:
· positively address personal development issues
· improve their views about themselves
· respond positively to other people’s concerns about them
through problem solving, co-operation, and understanding the needs of both the group and the individuals.
The information, ideas and guidance on organising and running activity sessions encourages:
· de-cluttering and simplifying informal activities
· working with the ‘group’ dynamic and ‘letting go’ in appropriate circumstances
· transferring responsibility from the adult to the individuals and the group as a whole.
Based on 40 years’ experience of working with a wide range of young people from diverse backgrounds, in a variety of contexts, with individual and collective needs, these activities are ready for use in schools, youth work, and the outdoors.
The activities are categorised from Level 1 to Level 5 according to their complexity, with – roughly speaking – Level 1 being warm-ups and Level 5 providing a significant challenge to a group or number of small groups. Any of the activities can be used individually, or structured into sessions.
