Hi benjiesmum I agree docile is not a term I would ever use for Shetland sheep ;D Inveterate, fast, awkward, to damn clever by half - yes ;D But you gotta love them despite it all

Having spent yesterday afternoon providing labour at the clipping of 225 cross-bred ewes, I can safely say that docile is not a word I would use to describe them either!! I fear the forum police wouldn't allow my descriptions!! Mr maree and my almost-octogenarian grandfather sweated buckets trying to get the ewes into the race and I spent half of my time trying to get them shoved up onto the clipping trailer and the other half on the receiving end of the fleeces, all requiring "cleaning" shall we say!! Happy days ;D ;D

I notice some of the sheep have blue marks on them, this is probably a very silly question, but whats it for ? And, on Saturday i was driving through to Edinburgh and i saw cerise pink sheep, not just little marks, but the whole sheep was bright pink, my wee boy was shocked, he has been telling everyone at school today about the pink sheep he saw, but nobody believed him. Why are they pink ?

Why are they pink ? Only just spotted this Bramble! Some farmers are dipping their sheep in bright colours to try to stop them being stolen. It's much harder to sell pink sheep at a market than just ordinary sheep. I've seen them totally bright blue and also yellow. Trouble is people come in the night - rustle your sheep away sell them on and they're gone bfore you can say "Little Bo Peep!"

Here are a few photos of my sheep in the snow yesterday. This is my whole flock - all six breeding ewes and one of last year's ewe lambs. My best shearling ewe (on the left) She has a lovely head and is the daughter of the left hand sheep in my avatar. And my other shearling. Last but not least my two rams in the snow tonight.
