Hi all, first of all - apologies if this goes to the wrong section, wasn't really sure if this would be better here or in Northmavine local issues - or somewhere else... I'm wondering how good mobile phone coverage there is in Northmavine, and what companies do work? I've got an O2 connection myself, and I'm hoping to get a 'mobile internet' - such that I'd be able to get online from my laptop through my mobile when I'm in Northmavine so that I can keep posting here while I'm actually there! (if anyone has any experiences on how well such things actually work, that information too would be well appreciated!)

I use Vodaphone and get intermittent coverage, however I was up at the Braewick cafe & caravan park today and the signal was as clear as a bell

I think it's generally Vodafone and O2 that have the best coverage in Shetland, although other networks such as Orange have some coverage too. For posting on forums and generally using the internet while you're here, you could use the public computer at the NDC office if it's still available to the public. Maree might advise. There might be other ones around in Northmavine for public use - there used to be a public one in the Booth on the seafront in Hillswick, does the Ollaberry Shop have a public one? Any others? Or if you were very lucky, you might find wireless access. Not sure if any of the businesses provide that, although some of the accommodation providers do. In Lerwick there is free internet access at the Shetland Library. Or pop in and use ours!

We have a public access computer at the NDC office at Greenbrae - for a small fee folk can surf as long as they like. We also have a wireless network for anyone with a laptop with wireless facilities. Just give us a phone to check that we're in before you call along - 01806 544222

Hi all, thanks for the replies and info on phone coverage & places to get online Maree & Malcolm. Good to hear there’s several options for that in Northmavine! And thanks for the info & kind offer Fiona George, you didn't see me in Brae - I'm still at home, heading to Shetland in couple of weeks (to make it to the Folk Festival). Fritz is brown & cream – you can see a photo in the van thread!
