Please note - 650 pixels across is the recommended maximum size for pictures posted in the forum. But smaller than that is good! If you post pics larger than 650, the mods might ask you politely, either in the forum or by pm, to repost it. They're at liberty to remove a pic completely if it's too large. Not everyone has massive computer screens to view huge images. There are around 10-11% of forum viewers with a monitor resolution of 800x600. Larger images mean they have to scroll across and it can affect the formatting of the forum. 650 is about as big as you can go without scrolling at 800x600 - but as I say, smaller than that is preferable. Very large images can also slow the loading of the forum on the computer of someone with a slow internet connection. This isn’t so much of an issue nowadays with broadband becoming more widespread but could still affect some people on dialup. You can help by not making the physical dimensions of your image too big. If you can manage it, you could also reduce the resolution of your image – 72dpi is adequate for viewing online - to make it a smaller file size. Thanks! If anyone wants more information about resizing and optimising pics for the web, I'll post more about it and anyone can add their gems of wisdom to it, and of course you can always Google to find out more if you want!
