Yes, Fiona.. I omitted the philosophical slant on it for fear of misinterpretation.... we are but mere specks in the universe.......etc.etc. My cat's white!!!! Nope, it's definitely the camera strap! ;D .

A very interesting thread with good tips. My tip? Hold the camera STILL or even better don't hold it at all, put it on a tripod. If you don't have a tripod fill a small (6-8cm square) bag with dried beans. Pop this on a convenient post (or car, rock, tree stump, dead cow, or whatever comes to hand), then 'snuggle' your camera down onto the bean bag. Set the camera on 'timer' if you've got the facility. Line everything up, press the button and let go. Here's a shot from my back doorstep taken a few minutes ago. It's a really dull day with high winds. The trees at the bottom of the shot are in Wales, about two miles from me. The River Dee and sandbanks are behind that. The shoreline, briliantly lit by a passing sunbeam or something, the houses etc are just over seven miles away on a bit of England called The Wirral. Beyond that lies the River Mersey and, just about showing through the murk at about 14 miles is Liverpool. The vague hill shapes beyond are about 40-60 miles away. At best the visibility is a lot better than this. Hen Git

Thanks for the photo and the tip hengit. Any means of holding the camera still is a welcome tip here. Large lenses are great for getting closer to a subject, but if the camera is swaying around in a force ten gale the outcome won't be much of a photo

;D ;D ;D I've just learnt a very good lesson!!! If you delete your photographs that you've stored in your photobucket after loading them into here for people to look at - they disappear from your posting leaving a little red cross!!! So, the moral of the story is...don't empty your bucket!!! WELL I DIDN'T KNOW!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

Nobody tells you these things! I thought once you'd copied your photo onto the forum it was there for all time. Stupidly I've deleted them from my camera too! Sorry you've lost them, benjiesmum! There was a post - Oct 4 - which refers to how you have to upload your pic and link to it - northmavine.proboards86.com/index.cgi?board=help&action=display&thread=1159960506 in the 'How to put images in a post' thread. This is part of it - "1. You’ve taken a photo and it is now on your computer. You now need to upload <put> the photo somewhere on the internet. 2. You can either use your own webspace <you usually get some free space from your ISP – Internet Service Provider – such as BT, Tiscali, etc> or you can upload your photos to a free service such as Photobox - www.photobox.co.uk – or Flickr - www.flickr.com. 3. Ok, your photo is now living happily somewhere on the internet. Make a note of the web address for your photo – eg -http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l234/fifispics/mydoor1.jpg. 4. You now have to put a link to your photo into your post." As I mentioned, you have to upload your photo to its home on the internet - that could be a photo hosting site such as Photobucket or it could be your own webspace. Once it's in its internet home, then you have to put a link to it in your forum post. So you're not copying your photo into the forum, you're only linking to it. So if you remove it from its home <eg, delete it from Photobucket> then your link is still there in your post, but it has nothing to link to - hence the red cross. If you look at someone's photo in the forum, right click on it and click on 'properties' - you'll see where the photo actually is on the internet. Eg - clicking on one of Nortower's pics gives you this - i97.photobucket.com/albums/l230/kingedgar/stormyhamar.jpgI've modified the main post in that 'how to' thread that I referred to, to make it clear that if you delete your photo from its home on the internet, it won't then show in the forum.

Deleted my post about recovering deleted photos and moved it into a new thread. Makes it easier to find things when they are in separate specific threads!

This is an excellent website for photographs of unusual phenomena such as sundogs (never heard of these before!), moonbows, ice haloes etc: www.atoptics.co.ukThen I clicked on links/resources and scrolled down to Images and looked at the Sky Show by Vincent Jacques - excellent photographs and lovely music!!! and all his own work too! Some superb photos of planets, the moon, comets and starfields. Also photos showing his telescope set up etc. Lovely spot he's got in the Maritime Alps. I think the whole universe must pass by his house! Updated regularly too with new photos. Hope you think it was worth a look. I think he must be a bit of an expert too because he's got at least three cameras including a Canon EOS 350D, an Olympus C 760 and a Nikon D70 (whatever those are! Just so the camera experts amongst you know!!) He also has a section showing light pollution which links in with the thread about Street Lights in the Renewable Energy section of this forum. Some stunning photos of Monaco and Nice at night!
