Hello David. I hope you are having an easy day on your birthday, what is it again 21, same as the last one. ;D ;D ;D ;D the closest i've got to an otter was no more than 4 feet, i was a wee bit disconcerted when it started to hiss at me, i thought only snakes did that.. ;D ;D ;D then it scarpered back into the sea so fast that i could'nt get my old camera to focus on it..

We took Sadie to Ollaberry shore (her favourite beach) on Saturday on the way back from shopping at Brae, Colin took her onto the beach whilst (not so brave)I stayed in the car looking over to Sullom. I saw loads of sea birds even though it was very windy (to say the least ;D ).
Well Sadie was having a high old time chasing waves but something caught my eye, Could it be ? was it? Yes it was a pod of small whales! about 3 or four of them, My excitement was so great that by the time I remembered I had my camera in the back of the car they were gone.
But still, I've seen them. Next time I'll be ready for them! (I hope).

Just catching up with your otter/seal pictures George. The piccies of the otter having his/her lunch are fantastic to see. I saw one chewin on a pipe fish last year, but no camera unfortunately.
The seal looked as if he was fairly enjoyin gettin his photo taken ;D

You should have been at Hillswick today. I was hearing there were Orcas in St Magnus Bay near the Booth.

That's to bad maree, because I am going to eshaness tomorrow, i'll get some lunch in the braewick, I was looking out for whale's down at sumburgh this afternoon.. these orca's are possibly the pod that was last seen in yell sound last month, they seem to be earlier this year, i think they keep circling the island's, so tomorrow they will be down round about sumburgh, while i'll be in eshaness..

Thank's for the nice comment's from you all, yur got me blushing again, ;D But it's not to difficult to spot them, I believe they all have their own territory, all it take's is patience, and observe the coastline, you are more likely to spot them in the water feeding, when they come ashore, then it's very difficult to spot them as they blend in with their surrounding's, on a shoreline, watch out for a movement, which will give them away, they do tend to wander over the hill's as well, well away from the coast. one crossed the road one morning at the north roe/ hillswick junction, my son watched one near the surge flare in the oil terminal, when I was going into gunnister, one was running along the ditch at the roadside.. they are everywhere...
