Hi Bonna! I'm worried to about shearing these three so early. But they need to be done so early cos the big breeders (my spies have been out) have already got their Dartmoors inside and they were sheared bare last month!! If I want to show Little Arthur he has to be done asap!! They are all going to be brought in at night though because it is still very cold here. The ewes are still in full wool. I've left the leg wool on for showing. Next job will be to clean the wool and get the clarty bits out. He is the only shearling ram I've got so I can spend some time with him. The big ram will need the same attention - but Little Arthur is "ma boy"!!!

I did hope the leg work was deliberate - but I wasn't going to comment in case it was an accident!

Oh no mistake Bonna!!! The first year I showed I made the mistake of having the shearer take off all the leg wool. I was so embarrassed to find that this was not the right way to show them. Mine had white matchstick legs while all the other (in the know exhibitors) had big woolly legs.

Since the two boys were done it's been just the right weather for them thankfully! Yesterday they lay sunbathing in 18 degrees - unheard of for this time of year. The weather is canny though - it'll snow again before long. Then they'll be in!

My friend had a similar experience to you. She lost her "Red Ted" she bought in Devon with pneumonia early this year. She was heartbroken. But.....there are a few of his lambies pronging about the place now. Congrats on your latest arrivals!!!!

Lovely lambs there George! I like the way the sun is shining through the second lamb's ears. She's lovely! and it looks like a great day for lambies to be out and about. ;D ;D

Last little ewe lamb out today in the sunny weather. Nice and warm today. Same lamb at 7 weeks old hand-sheared today. I think she will be my show lamb. She has grown well. She will be inside tonight with mum because it's gone a bit cold.

Very smart and very sweet, nice picture BM, how long did that take and what do you do with the wool Took me about an hour altogether because she was not co-operating! Had to throw the wool in the hedge for the birds to use as nesting material - if it had come off in one piece (i.e. she'd been machine sheared) I would have saved it to go to the Woolboard but half of it was full of straw and the other half is all over my clothes!
