Well, I wanted to share this with you because it is a first for me. Every year - for years and years I have bought a poinsettia for Christmas. And, every year - usually in about April it gets thrown out. This year (or rather last year) I held on to it thinking that it was a shame to throw it out because it was not really dead - although all the bottom leaves had fallen off as had the red bracts that I would just leave it in the window. It has been a pathetic green excuse of a plant all summer baking in the south facing window. But in November I was shocked to see that the top bracts were starting to turn red - so I fed it and started watering it. The next thing I know it had really started to blossom! And here it is. I am still in shock. The red bracts continue to get bigger and bigger every day. I've just been reading up about looking after them and have just given it a misting of tepid water - something I should have been doing regularly as well as plunging it into 14 hours of darkness every day! Happy New Year everyone!

Well done Benjiesmum, good photos of a healthy looking plant, what was the outcome of the "Spadge" story do you know if they were able to release him/her.

I think they released him with another sparrow who was a bit older that Spadge. So hopefully he was able to have a little pal when he was taken to the woodland.

Yes I wish I hadn't gone to the expense of buying a new one this year but I still can't beleive the old one has grown back like this. It's a bit spindly at the bottom though.
