I’ve just noticed that the 70th anniversary of a notable event in British History will be on 13th of November this year. This is when the first bomb of the Second World War fell on British soil at Sullom. I notice Berth’s Wartime memories give this as the 15th but it was actually 13th. www.northmavine.com/wartime1.htm

Hi Allen Thanks for pointing out that this year sees the 70th anniversary of the first bomb dropping on British soil during the 2nd WW, a very notable event indeed. It's hard to believe that the rabbit was the only casuality though - very lucky for everyone else but not so lucky for the poor rabbit! A few years back, when we had the senior citizens club at the Firth and Mossbank Family Centre then I gathered up some photos relating to the wartime in this area and among those items, I have a photocopy of an article printed in a newspaper a few days after the bomb was dropped, of schoolchildren at the Firth School. I will look out the items that I have and post them on here if anyone is interested - I hope nobody minds me doing this as I know it isn't exactly Northmavine but we do have Sullom Voe in common! ;D

Hi Deltinglass, I would love to see or hear about anything from the old days in Shetland, And thanks Allen for the link, I had forgotten about that section of the site.
