An outreach post office service has now started in Hillswick. It's based in the Hillswick hall and is open at the following times: Monday 2.30pm - 5.00pm Thursday 3.00 - 5.30pm The only way the Post Office will consider increasing these hours is if folk can prove there is a demand for extra hours by using the hours currently provided. This will be difficult for a lot of people as work/transport doesn't fit in with these times, so it's a catch 22. Thanks should go to Jean from the Ollaberry Post Office for providing the hosted service. She's helping the community make the best of what is a bad job.

Thanks for letting us know, Maree. And yes, thanks to Jean for providing the outreach service.
It did seem a bit of a fait accompli by the Post Office. As far as I can remember, the hours they offered after the "consultation" were the same as what they'd offered initially. Going through the motions? As you say, they're not ideal for people working or those needing transport so it's going to be a difficult task to show that there is demand during those two periods in the week.
If I get a Designed in Shetland order from the internet on a Tuesday, do I hang on to it for two days to enable me to post it during the golden period on the Thurs to show there's demand? Or do I post it as soon as possible in Brae/Ollaberry/Lerwick so the customer gets the best service possible?
