Recently my eldest son was home from Edinburgh for a few days and we took a walk along the cliffs at Eshaness as far as the Grind O Da Navir. Regular forum followers will remember that it's my favourite place in Shetland so I'll not bore you by posting any more pictures of it, but Sean did snap this one at the Hols O Scradda which we found quite amusing. PS.....The Hols O Scradda is actually one hole now. It's a fair distance in land and was probably created after the roof of a subterranean passage fell in. It's possible (but a bit tricky and perhaps foolish) to climb down to the beach from the land above, so Sean and I were trying to figure out whether someone climbed down on whether they had traveled through the passage in a kayak or such like from the sea

Love it!
Maybe it will appear on Google Earth before long - like the writings on the Great Orme near Llandudno - which are clearly visible from the air. Take a look and you will see that people have done similar messages/names and symbols over the years. I think the clearest is a huge cross.

I've just found this thread this morning Maree, i found it interesting as me and two mates [ Alec Simm and the late Norman Smith from Brae ] climbed down into the hole in 1978.. We used a rope to get down into it, but climbed back out without the rope. as i remember, that day there was no way a kayak could sail through the hole, as the waves coming through the cave filled the cave to the roof and the back surge of the waves were awsume, though at slack tide it might have been easier.. the same day we climbed down the cliffs to the sea as well, this was near Moo stack.. O happy days.
