Hi folks!
I had someone query recently how I was allowed to use the forum to advertise my business <website + forthcoming shop> when commercial advertising wasn't allowed on the forum. A valid query and quite right to ask.
Just to clear things up, Maree posted something ages ago asking about my progress and I replied, giving some information. I then hoped it didn't sound too much like advertising so I queried it with Malcolm & Maree. <back in May I think this was>
M & M were happy for a local business like mine to use the forum and Maree thought the forum should be actively encouraging local businesses to use the forum to promote themselves, in line with the aims of the website <which the forum is linked with> regarding the regeneration of Northmavine.
As I've not been involved with the running of the forum or website for some time now, I'm not sure what was decided re advertising on the forum - whether it's just Northmavine businesses or Shetland businesses, and how and where local advertising is allowed on the forum. Trying to place safe, I've just kept stuff I've posted in the same thread in the Classified Section - Northmavine Arts & Crafts, and gone with what M & M said re advertising, but it would be good to know what is and isn't allowed and in which parts of the forum. It would really help me and other Northmavine businesses know what we are and aren't allowed to do and would be much appreciated, thanks. I'd happily go along with whatever is decided.
For your information: The reason that commercial advertising wasn't allowed in the forum <reflected in the forum T&Cs>, similar to the Shetlink forum, was to avoid the forum being swamped by often objectionable adverts advertising Viagra, porn sites, mobile phones, etc etc. They have absolutely no interest in Northmavine or Shetland and are not partaking in forum activities.
Thanks,
Fiona
