I've just spent ten minutes writing this story and lost the lot so now I'm going to do it a bit at a time! The drinks are on me!!!! ;D The relief barman has been sacked I believe, George. The new staff have arrived and I've heard that water is "on tap" now. So please don't stand outside protesting - you'll get blown away... like the roof in my story...... Today we had our inspection and it was very tense all day. It seemed to go well and the head was hoping (as we all were) for a "good" grade. The result of the inspection wasn't due until sometime after five o'clock. I decided to go home at my usual time because of the very bad weather. It had been blowing gale force winds all day, so set off home. After traveling three miles I discovered that the whole area was gridlocked so turned back to school thinking that I might as well stay there rather than sit in a jam. Got back to find that the roof had been blown clean off the Science block along with various bits of roof off the English department. There was panic everywhere - the inspection result forgotten for a moment! The men from the town hall declared the building unsafe and by 5.30 had closed the school down! So began the phone calls to staff. One of mine went something like this: Me: Hello, Pat, it's benjiesmum here! Pat: (stunned because she's a PE teacher and hardly knows benjiesmum) Hello....er...are you OK? Me: Oh yes, I've just been asked to phone you to tell you not to come into school tomorrow - the roof's blown off. Pat: You're havin' a laarrff aren't you? Me: No, it's the truth. If you don't believe me come in and see - but you'll be on your own! But we've honestly got the day off! Pat: (coming to her senses after the stressful day and reaching for another whisky) So....there is a God after all......... Needless to say within ten minutes of the closure the phone lines were red hot with enquires from enthusiastic students asking if the rumour thy had heard by this time was true! Anyway, off home I set again after the "result" we had all only dared to hope for - and we got it "good" with some "outstanding features" - phew!! The head was over the moon - hardly surprising in the terrible wind we were having! It took me three and a half hours to do a journey which usually takes an hour. Trees fallen everywhere, roads closed, floods and the biggest jams I've ever seen. Hubby was frantic with worry and had called the police. So please, can I have a double brandy and one for everyone else. And can I sit by the fire because it was cold outside. Cheers! ;D

The head was over the moon - hardly surprising in the terrible wind we were having! Was the roofless science block classed as an outstanding feature!? Sounds like you need a brandy after the day you've had........you'll need the day off tomorrow to get over today!! Congratulations on your inspection result. Cheers!

Thanks mhay. Yes, I'm sure it will be. ;D I expect the poor Science teacher will be in for some stick next week about "blowing off the roof." The things these young teachers do to try and impress inspectors. There really was no need to go that far. A bunsen burner and a beaker full of boiling coloured water would have sufficed. Yawn... good night everyone, I'm away to my bed I've had enough excitment for one day.

The drinks are on me!!!! ;D Gin and bitter lemon please The relief barman has been sacked I believe, George. The new staff have arrived and I've heard that water is "on tap" now. Thank goodness That'll be Northmavine Sparkling Mineral Water I expect (a social enterprise in the waiting if ever I heard of one). Are you recovered today benjiesmum? Bet the clear up is slowing things down a bit? Yes thanks, Pat. The wind has died down and I'm off work today what with no roof on the school and that! The River Clwyd has burst its banks at St Asaph - where sheep were safely grazing it is now just a HUGE lake. So many trees too have just split in half and fallen - big old trees - so very sad to see them down. Our road was blocked for a while too while a tree was removed from the road. My cousin's car was hit by a tree too! Looked at the ewes this morning only to discover that their hay feeder had wheeled itself 150 paces away from its usual place and had only stopped because it had bumped into the barn. Being sheep, of course, they were all standing gazing at the place it SHOULD have been. My friend got stuck in the Clocaenog forest when a tree blew down in front of her and as she reversed another one fell behind her. Still no power next door and beyond in the village. But yes! It's calmer than it was yesterday! So, being a person who likes to keep busy I took the liberty of writing a few quiz questions. Hope you like them! ;D
