For reducing images to e-mailable size I use a very simple and quick freeware caled PIXresizer see bluefive.pair.com/pixresizer.htm It's just a matter of load image choose size and save to file

god fi.....it's taken me long enough to learn to wirk da camera and get me photos into me photobucket withoot havin ta read the manual that is resizing And there was me trying to help... It may look long but it's holding your hand and taking you step by step to make it simple - obviously a waste of time and effort in this case!! This was based on a guide to posting images on ebay which I spotted on the internet and was just going to link to. <then it was down> It's nothing fancy - just standard stuff for someone working with images. If you find this too much, then don't go near Photoshop!!!! No-one's saying that you have to use a particular program or do it a particular way - in fact, no-one cares how you get there, but if you post an image it should be no more than 650 pixels across and hot a huge file size. Not posting huge images is just standard advice for a forum. It's actually quite thoughtless when some people are using small monitors and some are on dialup. When you've got 10 or 15 images in some threads as we have, and they're huge file sizes, it would take forever for them to load and most people would give up and walk away. Without wanting to sound harsh, if someone doesn't know how to put up reasonably sized images for use on a forum, then they shouldn't be posting them. If someone wants to learn how to do it - then fine. We're not under any obligation as forum staff to teach people how to do stuff like this - if people do try to show others, then it's through a desire to try to help.

My reply was merely a bit of fun. We all appreciate the job done by staff. It can't be easy to deal with the techy stuff whilst keeping the fun, friendly aspect to the site

I downloaded the PIXresizer and it seems to work well. I managed to reduce this photo to a reasonable size. I was on a dial up link a couple of weeks ago at my daughters house and www.northmavine.com crashed on me. I have to say I'm hopeless with technology but found this software is really easy to use.

I am wondering whether we should be deleting some of our old highly active emoticons and pictures?

Sorry if it came across as tetchy.. Think am needin' a break. ;D There's been quite a lot of work involved in setting up the forum, T&Cs, etc etc .. and then the constant ongoing stuff. It's not a huge forum so it's absolutely a drop in the ocean compared to the likes of shetlink, but I think it might be a good time to take up Mad Mal's offer of more help. He's got a lot of experience with forums, having run his own one for about 6 or 7 years, if I remember correctly. I think it's www.as-assist.com/ Peerie Bryan of shetlink says that with a forum, it's a bit of a never-ending thing and that you do need a break. If Mal is willing to step into the breach, I might just don my shades and sit in my virtual deckchair sipping a long, cool drink and under the <probably virtual!!> sun.. ;D

Benji - well done for achieving what you have done with the camera & Photobucket, etc. Perhaps you might want to try Allen's suggestion? But, as I said before - entirely up to the individual what they want to do.

Yup I run a website for Ankylosing Spondylitis sufferers. At present we have over 730 members for which i get help from 6 Admins and several Moderators (Thats how I get my breaks). The website basically runs itself now as it has been up and running for several years, My Admins and moderators etc have to earn their placement and they see it as a honour to be offered a place. The website is basically a self help group for people with AS (The same condition I suffer from). At present it is just a website with several facilities, but we hope that this year we will be registering as a charitable group for which we are trying to raise the initial £1000 to get started. The site is run as a "Membership only" site (ie you have to join to see what is on the site and be either a sufferer or a family member of a sufferer or a friend of a sufferer). The site is as i say run by myself and a handful of others, we hold monthly meetings and offer such things as "reasearch, info on the disease, exercise, day to day self management for pain etc and up to 10 seperate chat areas as well as the forums. We give advice on benefits and how to involve our families and friends in our day to day lives as the illness affects them just as much as it does us (apart from the pain). My offer of help with the Admin side for Northmavine.com to give Fi a break stands as I have plenty of free time Thanks to the Admins on AS-ASSIST. I hope I do a good job for Fi and that she has an enjoyable break.
