Headline news tonight was that a case of foot and mouth has been confirmed near Surrey. A 10 km cordon has been placed round the smallholding and a UK ban on movements has imposed until vets have confimed the virus strain. Terrible news that Maree! Someone told me today that the place that is cordoned off is right next to the place that produces the F&M vaccine! (Allegedly) Those look like Muckle coos to me bod. Nice piccies. But someone better pull that ragwort up before it seeds!

Looks like the above could be correct. The research lab at Pirbright may be the source of the virus which is used for research purposes. Lets hope that this is the case and a quick conclusion can be reached.

A worrying time again for everyone who keeps sheep and kye - although the inconvenience and economic fall-out factors are much larger here than the actual risk of the disease.
I'm not generally that much of a home-ruler, but if there was ever a time when it would be fine to be divorced from the diseased and over-regulated UK.............

Sorry you had a bad experience with the Galloways. We have Galloways and they are big, cuddly (sort of) babies. The babies tend to be a bit skittish, but the older ones and adults follow me and the lawn mower back and forth across the lawn. Granted, they are behind the fence, but they love to be petted and fussed over. They especially love the grass clippings. The cows also let my dog ( a goofy terrier/poodle mix) chase them and try to herd them. I would love belted galloway. They always make me smile
