just back fae a splendid veesit to Orkney, so here's a couple of snaps. I can thoroughly recommend visitors to Shetland calling along Orkney on the way North. The landscapes and cuisine are excellent, but the welcome from the Orcadians is outstanding........nearly as good as here in Northmavine! ;D "New" lighthouse in North Ronaldsay. North Ronaldsay Trust are in the process of converting the outbuildings. A woollen mill and craft shop are already in operation. The now famous Old Beacon featured in BBC restoration programme. The Trust are presently fundraising to restore the Beacon and lodges. The local pub in Shapinsay............currently on the market. Balfour Castle in Shapinsay. Although visitors can stay at the castle or even get married there, I canna think it can be as welcoming as our accomodation at "Hilton" - farm house accomodation.

I didna manage tae express dat very weel, an kent I wisna.....so will try ageen.
Orkney, for me, is da only place i'm ever been tae which felt almost exactly laek hame, but which hed "extras" which I'd aye wished Shetland hed - laek loads o peerie cafes aawye, ditto beautiful saandy beaches, a glorious abundance o flat bigging stane, better-keepit farms, etc etc - I'm afraid I could go on an on.
No dat I wid ever laeve Shetland ta bide dere - I suppose you could laekin it ta meeting someen you consider might a been your perfect partner, except dat you already hae een you love an hae nae intention o laevein.
Howzat? (bearing in mind da time o da moarning!)

Looks absolutely beautiful G. And a lovely day for rambling about the countryside rather than being cooped up in an office!

Beautiful just, Pat! Well, I went on a little adventure today as it was so sunny and warm. I went to Conwy which is a lovely little town on the River Conwy not too far from us. It boasts the smallest house in Great Britain...with a REAL Welsh lady....the house is nearly as big as the litter bin next door! It's only got two rooms - one upstairs with a bed etc and one down. Nobody really lives there anymore but they used to. and... a castle... and a very good fish and chip shop and nice ice cream. and....lots of boats in the harbour... and dis fella, but I'm not sure who he is - didn't like to ask. But I bet he isn't English (he looks a bit English though!). I'll find out later. *edit "Yikes! It's Prince Llewelyn!* Lovely day!!!! Then off to the RSPB reserve to make enquiries about a bench. I'll post a piccie on Birds later.
