Just be thankful that I don't feature in that one Aitch! To make a link to the photo on Shetland News website , first right click on the photo then to copy properties at the bottom on the tag that pops up, highlight the text with your mouse and then right click again and choose copy. Then come back to your text that you have typed in the message box and hightlight with your mosue again the text you want the picture to link to and then click the insert hyperlink tag on the toolbar so you have url in brackets and then a front slash+url at the end of you choosen text. Finally what I do is to change the first url to read "url=then the copied and pasted properties to the photo" and Voila! hopefully it will link Not all websites allow you to link to their content though and be careful to make sure you always show where you have copied and pasted anything from as there are copyright issues to consider - my policy on the internet is to never pass off other peoples work as your own unless you know it is yours!

Hmm Don't think Shetland News allows you to link to their content but this forum isn't working properly for me tonight so I can't double check my post above - I've got no Modify button and the smilies aren't showing for me either - weird.
My modify button has reappeared now - maybe just a glitch somewhere. I have changed the URL to just link to the Shetland News website and not the photo and that works fine now.

Today i went to Hillswickland.. the place is full o gorgous burds.. but i spotted only wan in the new shop.. the twins [ Fiona & Fiona ] must huv seen me coming, and scarpered, even Maree wis'na there.. so i left a wee message wae the beautiful wifie in the shop, i telt hur that Maree hud invited me fur coffee..
Then it wis aff on ma travels again..
Next stop wis Johnny Notions Bod..
A wee bit about him..
The amazing success, with which inoculation has been attended. Formerly the small-pox occasioned the most dreadfull ravages, in these islands; frequently carrying off the fifth part of the inhabitants. Now, hardly any suffer from this disorder. Inoculation is successfully practised, even by the comon people; but in particular by a person, whose name is John Williamson, who, from his various attainments, and superior talents, is called Johnny Notions, among his neighbours. Unassisted by education, and unfettered by the rules of art, he stands unrivalled in this business. Several thousands have been inoculated by him, and he has not lost a single patient.
His success being so remarkable, it may not be improper to take some notice of the method he pursues, in case it can furnish any useful hints to persons of the medical profession. He is carefull in providing the best matter, and keeps it a long time before he puts to use it, - sometimes 7 or 8 years. And, in order to lessen its virulence, he first dries it in peat smoke, and then puts it under ground, covered with camphor. Though many physicians recomment fresh matter, This selftought practitioner finds from experience, that it always proves milder to the patient, when it has lost a considerable degree of its strength. He uses no lancet in performing the operation, but, by a small knife, made by his own hands, he gently raises a very little of the outer skin of the arm, so that no blood follows: then puts in a vers small quantity of the matter, which he immediately covers with the skin, that had been thus raised. The only plaister he uses, for healing the wound, is a bit of cabbage leaf. It is particularly remarkable, that there is not a single instance in his practice, where the infection has not taken place, and made its appearance at the usual time. He administers ne medicine during the progress of the desease; nor does he use any previous preparation. – He is a singular instance of an uncommon variety of talents, being a tailor, a joiner, a clock and watch-mender, a blacksmith, and a physician. Then it wis time fur me ta head home again..

Yes george.......Johnnie Notions really was a man of very many talents. I was at the Hillswick shop later tonight and found a message to day you'd called along. We still haven't got da coffee machine up and running but I think it'll need to be da next job on wir list. Today I've mostly been trying to clear my desk at the office and had a quick dash to Lerook this afternoon to finish off a few jobs. I collected the magazines for the shop from Brae and headed back to Hillswick to stand in for da lovely manager Eileen while she went to the panto............Oh no she didn't............Oh yes she......................... I'm also trying to give up smoking..........well no.........I'm trying to find ways to continue smoking that are better for my health, so Neil and I have invested in 'electronic cigarettes'. We still get a nicotine hit, but without the tar and nasty chemicals. Neil hasn't had a 'real' cigarette for nearly three weeks, but I have to admit, I haven't been as good as he has.

I thought I'd use this thread to update my freends on here as to why I've been relatively quiet on the forum over the past few months. Some of you will be aware, but for those friends in the electronic ether in welsh wales and other places, I've spent the last few months helping to look after my terminally ill grandad. He passed away on 20th February, so at the moment we're trying to pick up the pieces and sort everything out. He was 81 and led a full and active life until last summer. He was also able to remain at home throughout his illness, so we have lots to be thankful for. Hopefully, I'll have a bit more time to myself soon and will be back to being a regular poster! Thanks to all you forum members who've sent cards or attended the funeral.......on such a terrible day o wadder.......I appreciate your kindness very much x

But how wonderful that he led such a full and active life and that he was able to remain at home - that is so much the very best place to be. My condolences to you and your family.
